Greetings all! As growth-minded global companies, I know you are all invested in and concerned about how to scale successfully and sustainably. As a Global eCommerce Consultant, I have dedicated my career to helping companies like you succeed through technical SEO and digital marketing best practices.
My presentation at the upcoming Brand2Global Virtual Conference 2020 will focus on 20 Tips to help you scale technical SEO internationally. It’s designed to help you achieve distributed success across all your target markets.
To get you excited for the conference, I’ve chosen three of the 20 tips we will discuss, to give you a little taste of what you can expect.
But first, let’s talk a little about technical SEO.
What is technical SEO?
I think we all know what SEO is, in general. Technical SEO, however, focuses on the technical aspects of your website. The goal of technical SEO is to make your site pages easy for search engines to crawl and understand where the pages are about. Here are three out of the 20 you’ll learn about in my presentation:
Setting Up Your Domains
In setting up your domains, there are a couple of ways you can approach this. Using ccTLDs (country-code top-level domains) is like having a local area code. It relays to the user the idea that your company is local to the country, which supports trust. It’s also better for local SEO results as your site will be seen as more relevant for a specific country.
Another approach is to use subfolders for country and language and where you’ll benefit from combined site authority. This is especially useful if your company or product is not necessarily targeted to a specific market.
Use the Same CMS
If you are targeting multiple countries, you shouldn’t place everything in one CMS as it could pose a cybersecurity risk. However, using the same CMS and settings as a base across all markets will save you a lot of time. Pages are already optimized and designed in a way that’s consistent with your branding and management, and updating is accomplished much more quickly.
Use a CMS That Allows Custom Plugins
Answering the needs of diverse markets is easy when you can use custom plugins or CMS add-ons. When you’re using the same CMS in each market, you can push out new plugins and updates globally. This practice will save you a lot of time and ensure that you maintain brand consistency.
